Alissa Ovalle Marquez I'm having issues viewing the session. I get a popup stating it has started, yet only see a thin vertical bar w/o sound or video. Anyone else here?
10:12 AM
Ron Stagg i'm here
10:13 AM
Ron Stagg I see same. I don't think it starts for another 3 mins?

10:18 AM
Jeff Limones ah 2 weeks != 2 weeks now it makes more sense
10:18 AM
Jeff Limones got it!
10:19 AM
Dorian Kersch I am a fan of the 1 day update. You just let SN update your instance and say oops
10:19 AM
Delante Bess πŸ‘
10:19 AM
Stefan Taitano Upgrade before Christmas anyone?
10:19 AM
Timothy Deniston '@Dorian Kersch I think that's -1 day update... you show up one day and realize it upgraded over night lol
10:19 AM
Javier Arroyo that's a bit ambitious. twice a year.
10:20 AM
Jeff Limones its surprising how many customers actually get blindsided by this
10:20 AM
Tommy SΓΈnderstgaard VΓΈlcker the oops feature @Dorian Kersch it's not a issue it's a feature
10:20 AM
Ramiro Rincon Upgrade twice per year is, apparently, a priviledge. You need to confirm with your Account Manager if you're able to do so. Otherwise, you're stuck with only 1 upgrade per year because of your SN contracts
10:20 AM
Ella Strid really? how often do you upgrade? we are early birds, typically running newest release ~1-2 months after release
10:20 AM
Chad Hayes zboot is a feature too...
10:21 AM
Deborah Hill Yeah what happened to letting everyone else finding the bugs first?!
10:21 AM
John Dahl with apps moving to the store, the platform family release updates will get less and less scope. But keeping all the apps up-to-date is getting more painful!
10:21 AM
Jeff Limones wait what?
10:21 AM
Javier Arroyo SN has to like you to grant use of a sandbox
10:21 AM
Jeff Limones you can upgrade any time... never seen a contract saying you can only upgrade once
10:21 AM
Timothy Deniston That's wild -- does anyone know how that works? Is it for those below a certain ACV? Below a number of licensed users?
10:21 AM
Jeff Limones Sandbox you have to purchase;
10:21 AM
Pawan Kumar Singh That equals to Reset to factory setting option in phone
10:22 AM
J.P. Marshall Sandbox has been a huge help for us!
10:22 AM
Mark Laucus I was a pre-Aspen user and we had a 3 month move plan to it and came in one morning and had a email from SN letting us know they upgraded for us. Created immediate stress but it worked out.
10:22 AM
Ron Stagg anyone here using upgrade plans successfully?
10:22 AM
Javier Arroyo I've been rejected for sandboxes at least 15 times since 2011
10:22 AM
John Dahl I really miss having a sandbox instance!
10:22 AM
Valerie Kruse one of our client's ignored the emails from ServiceNow about an upgrade while we were configuring their new instance and we all woke up one day to non PROD being mysteriously updated from Washington to Yokohama... that was a fun blip in the project. If you are a partner, be sure this is part of discussions with client NOT to ignore the emails.
10:22 AM
Joanna Anderson As a partner, I wish SN would make sure every single customer has a test/uat instance! I've had 4 customers this year with only a dev and prod!
10:22 AM
Casey Ferguson IIRC the SKU is a fixed annual fee and starts with 10 sandboxes.
10:22 AM
Ramiro Rincon I'm talking based on experience. One of our clients is able to only upgrade once per year, because of the products they have purchased so far to SN
10:22 AM
Jeff Limones i tried upgrade plans and it was not great; it started customizing records that had never been touched and throwing them in a new global scopped app
10:22 AM
Pawan Kumar Singh Sometime Servicenow gives Sandbox instance free as well. Just you need good negotiation.
10:22 AM
Ella Strid We tried it last upgrade! A bit of learning curve, but it worked well enough
10:23 AM
Niklas Rautengarten We use it for most customers, the only pain currently is missing entitlements on Prod
10:23 AM
Ron Stagg yes, this is by design.
10:23 AM
Ramiro Rincon If you have other products that allow you upgrade twice, then you can do it
10:23 AM
Pawan Kumar Singh I got Sandbox instances free for big clients and they do
10:23 AM
Roman Haas Do not confuse Sandbox Instances with Developer Sandbox Casey
10:23 AM
Javier Arroyo when SN sees my name come through. They say not for javier. thank you very much
10:23 AM
John Dahl I've seen companies with turnover fail to update the communication contacts... so while SN communicated the changes and upgrades, nobody was receiving them.
10:23 AM
Casey Ferguson '@Roman Haas good point, sorry!
10:23 AM
Ron Stagg ok, next question, how many of you are laying down update sets BEFORE upgrade vs after?
10:24 AM
Jeff Limones they may have increased pricing but last i remember a new non-prod instance was about $1k/month
10:25 AM
Casey Ferguson To clarify, from a 'sku' standpoint - this 'sandbox' is just a non-prod instance that you're using as a sandbox, then - not a 'product' so to speak? just making sure i was tracking and if i somehow missed the memo on a 'product'
10:26 AM
Chad Hayes I wondered if ATF was gonna come up here!
10:26 AM
J.P. Marshall How about ATF Cloud Runner?
10:26 AM
Blake Molmen Another use for a sandbox instance: Once we have done all the testing and what not on our sandbox and we are ready to do the prod upgrade...before we do We clone our prod to sandbox before the upgrade. This gives us a copy still running on the old version to compare against if we find any production issues. This way we can test was this a problem before the upgrade or not.
10:27 AM
Ron Stagg here's a fun one ladies and gentleman, we started our Zurich upgrade. I queued up 279 app updates in App Mgr.
10:27 AM
Jeff Limones strange
10:27 AM
Jeff Limones how did you queue it up? manually?
10:29 AM
Ramiro Rincon So @Blake Molmen , just to be sure: you guys clone PROD to Sandbox, upgrade Sandbox to target version, make tests/fix issues/etc, then when you're ready, re-clone PROD to Sandbox for backup purposes, right?
10:29 AM
Kevin Eldridge Are you able to restore that data from backdrop recovery?
10:29 AM
Andrew Robinson Do you know what would be an amazing feature using AI, if after you implement something NOW Assist asks you if you want to create an ATF and starts the process with an either full or partial suite. The time that would save!
10:30 AM
Tomas Lozano pure magick..
10:30 AM
Chad Hayes ATF upkeep is extremely time consuming if you have a dynamic catalog.
10:30 AM
Ella Strid best idea ive seen yet! have anyone tried AI when creating ATFs yet?
10:31 AM
Christian Hoederath Thank you @Chris Schuh. Could you share the slide deck? I would like to try out the tools, but I haven't noted them down.

Andrew Robinson I've used it for Update set summarisation but not ventured into ATF... But sounds like a fun project.
10:31 AM
Casey Ferguson πŸ‘ love the fast/informative format

10:32 AM
Ruth Osoata Thank you Chris
10:32 AM
Andrew Robinson Thanks Chris!!
10:33 AM
Blake Molmen basically yes... we personally dont do any of the work in sandbox (we use it as a preview before we are ready to start) and fixes are done in the dev pipeline (dev/test). But yes we re-cone prod down to sandbox before prod as a back up. then when the hypercare period has calmed down we either clone or upgrade sandbox.
